When we fall in love we believe that our partner will relieve any scarcity, provide us with what are parents denied us, and heal our past. This honeymoon phase falls apart when our needs and expectations confront the reality that these partners are not our saviors.
Having different Motives establishes a framework of ways to protest our fears of losing ourselves. Independence and automatic opposition confirm it.
Co-Dependent relationships come into focus at this moment when we seek to impose our independenceIndependence: 1. condition or objective of defining oneself outside of the contr… by opposing our partner so they will become more receptive to our needs. Independence produces isolation, separation, and insulation which are all ways to distance ourselves from the demands of partners. We do not imagine our temporary abundance will disappear when we no longer seek to give more than receive. Our lack of mutual action is caused by a fear of giving too much or allowing ourselves to be used for advantage. Overall, our personality needs for attentionAttention: 1. Motives are a conscious point of internal integration where choices can be explored without damaging our partners or the relationship.

We think motives come from our unconsciousness because they represent the impulses of our speech, thoughts, and actions. This does not consider that as we become conscious we become more self-reflective, where we question our immediate Impulses, Values, and Virtues. Each of these is a step in making our intention and energy more conscious and directed. We learn who we are by testing our Impulses, committing to grow our Values, and striving toward our creative Virtues. How we develop and enhance our Motives is by making the wrong choices so the next time we are in a similar situation, we consider other options. What we are seeking is an experience of creative flow, alignment, and joy with what we do. When we can do this with others, we are seen and valued as well.
Motives reveal the world of distortions showing us that mutual action can lead to negotiation, compromise, and even bribery to get things done.
Most people talk about motivations as only an inside-out process when it is primarily formed by the type of feedback we get from others. This shows up as a lack of communication and an imbalance in choices. In other words when a partner is contrary or stubborn, and this is a common event, it reflects that they have some insecurity and fear that their choices will not be heard, so they push back. Feedback is minimized when one person is in control and the other is at the effect. This guarantees Co-Dependence and misalignment in motives because both individuals are not equally empowered. This creates frustration both on the level of the leader and follower because they lack the common ability to be in alignment. Equality is necessary for mutual co-creative action.
When individuals operate with a particular motive, it tells us their degree of consciousness and allows us to recognize what additional guidance or communication we need to do to make sure we are in alignment with them. This requires a lot of patience from those who are more conscious and willingness from those less conscious to learn from their distortions (energy, time, or space-shifting). While this process of uplifting others can be effective it requires a lot of intention and energy. Most importantly we cannot do it everywhere because we have a limited degree of time and energy to meet the situation. This can be frustrating when we need to hold on to these issues.
When we interact with others, there is either a pull towards alignment or we get drained energetically in time and space. When the cost is too high, we end up rejecting the circumstances because the environment is working against us. The only way to change this is to change the people we are working with. this is because motives are how people see themselves contributing to the group. If you eliminate distortion, which would increase creative flow, you also risk threatening their ability to participate or exploit the environment. That is because people always think they deserve something from every activity. They need to get something out of it to feel that they are right to contribute to it.
Each motive conveys a strategy for maximizing personal power and influence by repressing, suppressing, or overwhelming people’s reactions to the movement.
The higher-conscious individual is put in a position where they need to invest more effort to teach the lower-motive person or choose to find someone else. Intuitive Motives are acts of service, where we incorporate others into our expanded context.
The problem with lower or unconscious motives is that we fall back into default actions that are defined by past conditioning. This means we repeat past choices and somehow expect different results. This is based on the inaccurate assumption that the last time we did not do something right. The fallacy begins with the notion that we have to do something when perhaps doing nothing is the best response. This is the value of stillness. The second fallacy is the idea that consulting others will make things easier for us. Having the pressure of others waiting for us to decide is not an effective strategy. It is best that we use solitude to formulate our answers before we take the options of others.
Finally, we need to create an openness and co-measurement process to combine solutions to create the best hybrids. We call this a Common Neutral GroundCommon Neutral Ground: 1.
